What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a combination of 2 Japanese words.

Rei meaning: universal spirit

Ki meaning: life force energy

Reiki is a spiritual practice much like mediation is a spiritual practice. It is not a religion, nor does it associate with religious practice.

Reiki is an alternative, energy based healing modality that is done by a gentle laying on of hands or with the practitioner’s hands slightly above the body. The energy flows through the hands of the practitioner and works with the body's energetic (chakra) system to help release tension and encourage deep relaxation to help the body heal.

Reiki gives your body a break from the stresses of daily life, potentially helping you return you to a state of relaxation and engage our parasympathetic nervous system (the opposite of that fight or flight state, we’re all so used to living in).

Other possible reiki benefits:

  • stress reduction

  • improved sleep

  • improved mood and emotional well being

  • pain management

  • relief from anxiety/depression

**REIKI IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR MEDICAL OR PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT OR PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONS. REIKI PRACTITIONERS DO NOT DIAGNOSE ILLNESS OR DISEASE, OR PRESCRIBE MEDICATION OR TREATMENT**
